AI and a great impact on mobile technology - Zesium
We've all heard about Artificial Intelligence (AI) but only few of us know exactly what it means and how does it impact our everyday life. When thinking about AI, many Baby Boomers and X Gens think of the old sci-fi films and scenes where machines come alive and take over the world. But that's just a funny representation how humans used to perceive the unknown. If you remember the old TV show'Beyond 2000', you may recall that their ideas and inventions were outstanding at the time, which only shows the potential of the technology. What is in fact AI and what are the examples we can see on mobile?

Schubert left Symphony No. 8 unfinished. A smartphone's A.I. just completed it
Franz Schubert composed his Symphony No.8 in 1822, but never completed it, making only two movements along with an outline of a third. Nearly 200 years later, Huawei, Emmy-awarding composer Lucas Cantor, and artificial intelligence (A.I.) inside the Mate 20 Pro smartphone have done what the renowned composer didn't. They've finished the unfinished symphony. The project is a continued illustration of not only the power of Huawei's Kirin 980 processor and Dual-Neural Processing Unit (NPU) artificial intelligence accelerator, but also the potential for using A.I. in varied creative projects. We're familiar with A.I. modes on smartphone cameras, and Huawei has previously demonstrated the power and speed of its A.I. in a self-driving car, where a phone was used to identify and help avoid obstacles.

The best gadgets of 2018
It's difficult to think of 2018 as a year with anything worth celebrating. But despite all the bad news the year dealt us, there were successes -- if you know where to look. In all corners of tech, we saw wins big and small. There were advances in obvious categories like laptops, smartphones and the connected home, but we also looked outside the mainstream for some of the more surprising gems. Think mini synthesizers for music nerds, retro emulators for nostalgic gamers and e-readers for modern book snobs. Humanity also collectively triumphed, as our space exploration programs broke new frontiers this year and we began to confront the increasingly real question: Should we all just move to Mars? We're just two weeks away from what is hopefully a much better 12 months, and the Engadget team took some time to commemorate our favorite gadgets and trends in tech.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro: cutting-edge brilliance
Huawei has made really good phones for years, but the Mate 20 Pro is the Chinese firm's first truly cutting-edge device with a triple camera, 3D face unlock and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The Mate series of phones has always delivered one thing above all else – battery life. This year Huawei has gone out of its way to deliver even more. The Mate 20 Pro is the best feeling, most premium device the Chinese firm has made. It's incredibly solid, smooth and well built, but at 189g is still surprisingly light and manageable compared to the 208g iPhone XS Max and 201g Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro shows Android is challenging iOS through AI
AI is the name of the game as new Android-powered machines push the innovation envelope. Last week's launch by Google of its Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones and last night's (16 October) launch by Huawei of its new flagship Mate 20 Pro indicate a rising sophistication among Android phone manufacturers. The style isn't just in the materials used to make attractive-looking devices, but also under the hood in terms of powerful new electronics and new dimensions of artificial intelligence (AI). 'Consumers are holding on to their handsets longer and longer, so making sure they're able to run effectively for their entire lifespan should be a key concern for manufacturers' – DOMINIC SUNNEBO For example, Google's Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL came with such refinements as the Snapdragon 845 processor, an amazing camera, 4GB of RAM front-facing stereo speakers and a new Titan M security chip. The Huawei smartphones feature a powerful new Kirin 980 processor – claimed to be Huawei's first 7nm devices – which will considerably step up the game against Apple's new A12 chip in the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR devices.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro review: Stuffed with genuine, full-on innovation
Chinese manufacturer Huawei has been on the brink of the big time for some years now, gently edging up the list of most popular phone manufacturers and, earlier this year, overtook Apple to the number two position, with only Samsung ranking above it. Much of that was down to the Huawei P20 Pro, released in the Spring and chiefly noticeable for an astonishing photographic capability thanks to three rear cameras, all made in conjunction with Leica. Today, the company revealed its latest phone, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Huawei's timetable sees two main releases a year, with the bigger-screen Mate Series taking the autumn slot. Quite a lot actually, and while some manufacturers seem to offer incremental upgrades every six or 12 months, the Mate 20 Pro is stuffed to the gills with innovation, including a super-cool reverse wireless charging feature.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro launches with in-screen fingerprint sensor
Huawei's new Mate 20 Pro has a massive screen, three cameras on the back and a fingerprint scanner embedded in the display. The new top-end phone from the Chinese firm aims to secure its place at the top of the market alongside Samsung, having recently beaten Apple to become the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in August. The Mate 20 Pro follows Huawei's tried and trusted format for its Mate series: a huge 6.39in QHD OLED screen, big 4,200mAh battery and powerful new Huawei Kirin 980 processor – Huawei's first to be produced at 7 nanometres, matching Apple's latest A12 chip in the 2018 iPhones. New for this year is an infrared 3D facial recognition system, similar to that used by Apple for its Face ID in the iPhone XS, and one of the first fingerprint scanners embedded in the screen that is widely available in the UK, removing the need for a fingerprint scanner on the back or a notch on the front. The Mate 20 Pro is water resistant to IP68 standards and has a sleek new design reminiscent of Samsung's S-series phones, with curved glass on the front and back.

Huawei's benchmark-cheating Performance Mode could be the Mate 20's hottest feature
It should have been a great week for Huawei. Following the news that it had overtaken Apple as the No. 2 phone maker in the world, the company set the stage for the next generation of must-have phones with the unveiling of its Kirin 980 processor and the launch date for the highly anticipated Mate 20 Pro. But instead of a series of positive headlines about what's to come, Huawei's old phones were in the news for all the wrong reasons. It started with an AnandTech report that uncovered some major inconsistencies with benchmark results. Inside the latest version of software on the P20, P20 Pro, and Honor Play, Huawei was discovered gaming its scores by optimizing the system for certain benchmarking apps, most notably the popular 3DMark and GFXBench suites.
